Description: Come make crafts to support Palestine! It doesn’t matter if you’re not a talented crocheter yet, we will help if needed. You can also make Hama-bead (aka ‘perler beads’) works, if crocheting isn’t your thing. Perler beading is also suitable for children from ages 6 and up, and children are warmly welcome to this event.

We will crochet the popular watermelon keychains and other crafts. We will provide you with all the materials you will need free of charge, however there is a limited amount of crochet hooks so it is recommended to bring your own in size 2,5–3 mm if you can. The crafts made will be sold, and all proceeds from this will be donated to Palestine.

    Ohjelma:

    14.00–15.30 Info-osuus

Description: In the Newcomers’ Day event you will hear from more experienced members of the Turku with Palestine collective how you (yes, YOU!) can take part in actions in support of Palestine. When protests and other events are organized, people in many different roles are needed, and therefore everyone can find their own way to be of help. Taking part in this event is in no way binding to anything particular. Anyone even a little bit interested in taking action for Palestine is warmly welcome!

    Program:

14.00–15.30 Introduction to organizing with Turku with Palestine

15.30–17.0] Hangout & support merch crafting

24.3.2024
  • Israel Apartheid Week: Zinetyöpaja// Zine-making workshop

    24.3.2024 @ 14.00 - 17.00

Kieli | Language: Finnish & English

Kuvaus: Tule mukaan kirjoittamaan, piirtämään, kääntämään, leikkaamaan, liimaamaan ja maalaamaan materiaalia Turku with Palestine -kollektiivin yhteiseen zineen eli pienlehteen! Zineen on tarkoitus koota erilaisia Palestiinaa ja paikallista Palestiina-aktivismia käsitteleviä tekstejä, kuvia ja muita sisältöjä. Tulevissa mielenosoituksissa myytävän valmiin, painetun zinen tuotot tullaan lahjoittamaan Gazaan.

MIKÄ ON ZINE?

Description: Join us in writing, drawing, translating, crafting, sketching and painting material for the Turku with Palestine collective’s zine! The plan is to create a communal zine where different kinds of texts, images and other content about Palestine and local Palestinian activism are assembled. The finished and printed zine will be sold at future demonstrations, all profits being donated to Gaza.

The zine workshop is a free-form creative space where you can come and go and work as you please. No previous experience of zines or crafting is necessary. Tea, coffee and craft supplies are provided, but you can also bring your own supplies if you wish, and/or vegan snacks to share. A warm welcome!

WHAT IS A ZINE? A zine is a self-published DIY magazine or booklet, often associated with political, artistic and underground movements. A zine is an excellent way to document the activities of a political group in a creative form and as a tangible object, and to spread information and opinions gathered between the covers, but without the gatekeeping of a publishing company. A zine often combines self-made and found material.

28.3.2024
  • Anti-colonial and abolitionist reading circle

    28.3.2024 @ 18.00 - 20.00

A reading circle organized by the Anarchist Black Cross Turku starts on the 15th of February with "Are Prisons Obsolete?", an abolitionist classic by Angela Y. Davis. Join us and delve into the world of abolitionist theory and contemplate what abolition means for us in our context here in Finland, both as political beings and rebellious humans.

The book is discussed in two parts, first on 15.2. and then on 29.2. We encourage you to read 3 chapters per meetup.

The book is available online at https://theanarchistlibrary.org/mirror/a/ay/angela-y-davis-are-prisons-obsolete.pdf . It is also easily accessible in audiobook format for free on the internet.

Throughout the year, we will also explore works by classics like Franz Fanon and new revolutionaries from horizons and perspectives.

"Are Prisons Obsolete?", published in 2003 by Seven Stories Press, advocates for the abolition of the prison system. The book examines the evolution of carceral systems from their earliest incarnation to the all-consuming modern prison-industrial complex. Angela Davis argues that incarceration fails to reform those it imprisons, instead systematically profiting from the exploitation of prisoners. The book explores potential alternatives to the prison system that could transform the justice system from a punitive instrument of control and retribution into a tool capable of changing lives for the better through a combination of autobiography and academic examination. It is a core text in the prison abolition movement.

    25.4.2024 @ 18.00 - 20.00

  • Anti-colonial and abolitionist reading circle

    15.8.2024 @ 18.00 - 20.00

13.3.2025
  • Anti-colonial and abolitionist reading circle

    13.3.2025 @ 18.00 - 20.00
